Tracy – sadly there are very few GP’s prescribing bioidentical natural hormones on the NHS and a few more who will do so on private prescription but they don’t advertise this and we don’t have a register of them.

Two of the doctors on this site who are very experienced in natural hormone prescribing do offer consultations in person or by phone in the UK.

After numerous discussions with my GP and a visit to the Menopause Clinic in Oxford I am no further in getting help with my peri-menopausal symptoms. The GP and clinic will only recommend synthetic HRT and antidepressants. I am so frustrated and would be eternally grateful if you could advise if there are any GP’s or specialists who specialise in Bioidentical HRT around Oxfordshire or Berkshire or are they mostly based in London ? I have been on synthetic HRT for 2 years now and in the past 6 months or more my side effects have worsened so I’ve stopped taking the tablets. Any advise or guidelines as to who to contact nearest to me would be so helpful.

Never heard of a disclaimer being demanded before, but sadly there is always a first time. Presume she didn’t ask her pregnant women patients to sign something to say the additional progesterone they produced during pregnancy might cause side effects – other than a baby!

absolutely agree with you ! 20 years ago I asked my woman gp for natural progesterone and she very reluctantly agreed and MADE ME SIGN A DISCLAIMER in case it had side effects !!!!!

Portia – thank you for your comment and certainly nettle tea is one of many natural herbal alternatives that I wish we could get research grants to study for their effectiveness. As it is, I am happy to rely on recommendations from generations of users. Best wishes, AnnA

In my culture Nettle Tea = Menopause Tea.

I have tried it during menopause and had increased energy and trouble free menopause.

Such a shame the male patriarchy took control of women’s business and try and force us to do their will, making them rich and women ill.

Great article Anna — Dr. Lee would have loved it. Thanks to the clamoring of menopausal women, bioidentical hormones are here to stay and every day more conventional MDs are turning to them. The French figured this out years ago.
